I'm so excited! I volunteered to serve on Houston's Unauthorized Practice of Law (UPL) Committee. I've been waiting for my background check to clear (yes, background checks happen to me, too). Its just come through and I've gotten my notice to attend my first meeting later this month. I'm pumped! The UPL Committee identifies "notarios" and "immigration consultants" practicing law without a license, investigates, and participates and civil suits and criminal prosecution. There are crooks out there practicing other areas of law, too, but immigration is the big one for this type of criminal activity. I've seen so many aliens taken advantage of these guys - and then they have to pay me thousands to undo the damage that's been done - it'll be good to finally take some direct action on this particular problem faced by immigrants.

Can we supply a list of names to you?
Its the Houston subcommittee, so I can only deal with Houston notarios. I probably don't need a list of names. These guys advertise openly. In fact, when I did a radio commercial, I had a few chats with the woman assigned to my account and she said that some notarios had tried to advertise on the radio, but the advertising department knew the activity was illegal and refused to take the account. Anyway, we won't have any trouble finding more crooks than we can possibly go after.

What's a "V" visa? As far as I know, it's a regular spousal visa, not sure if they followed the I-129F or just I-130 route though.. sorry, I get mixed up with the whole K-1/3 IR-1/CR-2 etc...

V is for spouse of an LPR if I-130 filed before December 2000. I ask because something on the thread you sent me to mentioned a "V Visa", but I'm not sure whether it was meant to be "IV visa" and the "I" got cut off ... you know what, I think only K visa applicants are the only ones other than immigrant visa applicants who are eligible to file an I-601, so it can't be a V visa. Hmm. Ok, then. I don't know why she got an open appointment. I don't know whether that's a change in policy or what.
I need to open a line of communication with Mr. B. Whether he wants to open a line of communication with me is another story.
