Question Pending 485

I am asking for friend of mine who is adjusting 485 in country:question how long max can he stay out of country his 485 pending but have traval document? Please response if you can. Thanks

I think it's less than a year. The AP document can be used if you want to remain out of the US for more than a year but that's only for permanent residents, not for people with pending application.

If he has had illegal presence in the US for more than 180, he can't leave or he will trigger a 3/10year bar eventhough he has a petition pending.

Let's approach this differently, how long does he want to stay out?

The Advance parole (which is the only one he is eligible for) is for emergencies only. He'll have to come back for his interview for his interview. I don't think it would look good if he applied for PR status and then left the US for an extended period.
