Hi! What is the cheapest way to get to CDJ (near the consulate, Hotel Lucerna), from the airport in El Paso?

the $40 shuttles seem steep

I'm not sure how much he'd charge, but you could call the taxi driver that we all use here on this site and ask him if he would bring you. His name is Alfredo Delgado and his number is 915-637-4988. If he doesn't do that ride, he will know the cheapest way for sure... otherwise some more people will chime in. Good Luck!! :D

Alfredo is great. He charges around $40 too. It is actually not that steep considering that it can take a couple of hours to cross, depending on the time of day. It is not far distance wise, but bridge traffic can be a nightmare, although I believe it is worse going from CDJ to the US than it is in the other direction. Keep in mind, the person that drives you will have to sit in bad traffic on their way back to El Paso, so that is probably the reason for the high price.

We drove right in when we crossed into Mexico, but it was very early in the morning.

Delaluna? May I ask why you are going through el paso to CDJ? I see that you are in Austin. Have you already bought your plane tickets? It would be MUCH cheaper if you go through the Mx side. I live in Laredo, TX and I am meeting my husband in Nuevo Laredo, Mx and we are taking a bus to Monterrey for 18 bucks a piece and then from Monterrey to CDJ we are taking a plane for 72.00 one way for BOTH of us. In total transportation costs are going to be $108 one way. Maybe you found cheaper flights?

Is there any way I can just but from the airport to the border? Are you able to walk across? I have never been to the border before, only interior mexico, so sorry if this seems ridiculous. my flight gets in at like 11:30 to el paso.

Auntlily,

No, I hadn't thought of that. I did already buy my ticket for $170 total. Just to know for the future, how long would it take for me to do that? I do not have a ton of time available to me, my work is kind of evil!

REally? Evil work? Sounds ridiculous..hahahaha....Join the boat. Actually I shouldn't say that, I am really blessed to have found a really awesome job with a really cool boss who can chill and hang. Anyhow, I don't really get your question as to the time to do what? Order the tickets? Well, I ordered mine online and I paid with a credit card. It only took about 10 minutes. As far as how long does it take to get there? Well you're from Austin, so you could take a greyhound to Laredo for about 20 bucks..well let me check for you...Ok I was wrong, BUT i do see that you can take a bus from Austin to Monterrey which is an 8 hour trip for $57, then from Monterrey to CDJ is about $35 per person and its a 1 hour 30 minute flight. then you can take a taxi for 20 bucks to the hotel. That's still only 112.

When we went to our first appt. back in 2006. we went through Reynonsa Mx. bought tickets to Monterrey 18.00 each..then from Monterrey, Mx. to CDJ..and its a long bus ride..like 14-16 hours..and they do make lots of stops..and its all just mountains and land..nothing really to look at..we mostly slept..and some buses do not have TV's that sucks..we did the same in our 2nd appt. Dec 2007. I met my husband in Monterrey Mx. back to CDJ..but we came back from El Paso..172.00 one way..it might be cheaper if you give 7 days advance...good luck..

Thanks guys, yeah since I only have the monday and tuesday off, I think it is more important to get to spend that time with my husband.

MGarcia,
I don't know for sure, but I was worried about that myself, which is why I send my hubby on a bus to cross to get to south texas instead of putting him on a plane where there is more security.. I haven't been letting him fly lateley at all because a couple of times that I went, they just "randomly" asked people (for domestic flights!) if they were american citizens (they only asked the foreign-looking people, random my *****.).

Anyway, I would just be careful. Are you going with him?

I have heard that even on the busses to the border they will stop you, and sometimes put you in deportation proceedings even though you are on your way out!

I hate racists.......

sorry! i didn't mean to scare you! anyway the deportation proceedings i have heard of was happening on the buses. Basically I was saying that either way has its risks, there doesn't seem to be a right answer. I mean, they have always had a risk just being here, right? I think that what makes it scarier is the insane unluckiness if it were to happen when they're leaving.

I think it is good you will be with him. Everything should be ok. I would just make sure you don't do anything out of the ordinary.
Sorry for scaring you!!!!! I am just saying that I too was worried but mine crossed over just fine.

I wouldn't call the airline though, that seems like a bad idea!

Going in to Mexico is always very easy at Juarez (and much more friendly; I've had guards and tollbooth operators talk to us), whereas crossing back is going to take an hour idling the car minimum. I can't remember if there is a local bus route that stops at the airport, because there is stops close to the border crossings (at least the Stanton crossing). But then you would need to get on a Juarez bus at the other end (my wife and I watched "Borderland" last night, so we will probably be freaked out about Juarez buses for awhile).
