If my husband is approved through the pilot program how long will he have to stay in Mexico? Would he be granted a visa that day?

That same day or the next (if his appointment is late in the day)!

Usually the stay for 'pilot program' people is from a week to two weeks. He will first have to go to get his medical stuff done at one of the two clinics that are authorized by the consulate. Then he will go to the first interview in which he will be denied for living more that 365 days illegally in the US. Dont worry/panic. The trick here is for him to be informed that he does qualify for the waiver. You should have scheduled your infopass appointment prior to so that you dont have a long stay waiting between appointments. During this waiver appointment he turns in the HSL that you wrote and the packet that goes along with it. The letter will get adjudicated that day. If it is found to be approvable he will be able to receive his visa the same day. If it is not found to be approvable that same day, he will then be backlogged. This means that he will be in Mexico for an undetermined period of time, which ranges.

We got approved through the pilot program, and stayed a total of 8 days. We arrived on a Wednesday, and left the next Thursday. Depending on when he gets out of the consulate after his approval on the 2nd interview, you may get to leave the same day. We got lucky and were able to do that. My husband was back at the hotel by 2, I think, and we were on our way to the border at 3:30. It all depends on how soon your husband can leave the consulate, though.
