Finally we have submitted our waiver at Montreal consulate, The officer was very friendly and didn't ask many questions. Towards the end of the interview, he denied the visa due to the overstay in U.S. and asked us if we had our waiver prepared which we did, and so we were asked to go to the cashier with the slip of paper he provided us. The cashier gave us a receipt of payment. We then went to the intake officer's window to submit the waiver packet. During the interview, the officer informed us that the waiver would take anywhere from 9 to 18 months.
I would like to know if anybody has any recent approvals from Montreal / Vermont and if anybody has any idea on approximately what timeframe is Vermont currently working on, since they have stoped reporting the I-601 timeline on the USCIS's website.

GOOD LUCK!!! I hope everything goes through quickly for you. I know the waiting is the WORST part!!! Sorry I have no clue on time line YET as we are still waiting for any kind of news and we submitted our waivers on Jan. 17/08.
The only think I know for sure is that it took the consulate almost a month to send our waivers off to Vermont :( The updated we last received from our senators office was about 1 month ago and they advised us that our waivers were sent / received in Vermont (not 100% clear on which) on Feb.13/08 with a priority/ rush status and if we did not hear ANYTHING with in 30days we had to contact the senator again to advise. We have a call in to her and are waiting to find out if they can get an update.
As soon as I hear I shall post.....now it might be different as we are getting help but I am not 100% sure.

You should get a NOA from Vermont once the waiver is entered into the system. Then you will be able to look for updates to your case online at uscis.

Found out from USCIS today that Vermont is working on I-601 cases received in October 2007. Mine was received since April 2007 but no decision yet. I just asked for a Referral to see what the hold up/status of my case is.
Good Luck!

I had a consultation with laurel Scott and I will share some info with you on Canadian cases
Quoting Laurel: "Canada is administratively one of the toughest countries to do a waiver through simply because (a)NVC requires a police clearance that can take 6 months to get, (b) visa interviews at the consulate are backlogged 6+ months, and (c) waivers go through Vermont, which takes like a year to adjudicate.Canadian waiver cases are among the top five lengthiest."

Montreal is difficult. You MUST be on top of the particulars of your case. Get your senator involved BEFORE your waiver submission. Ther more they (senators) know about your case, the more help they can be to you. If you meet the expedite criteria, then don't hesitate to aks for help from your senator regarding that. The more YOU can do and know about your case the better it will be.

The Senator's rep has definitely helped me in my case! They only answer inquiries if sent by her. . . .
