I was wondering how long it took for you to receive your NOA-1? I am in the same situation that you are in... hubby was in removal proceedings and took a VD. He is back in Honduras now, and I filed the I-130 in February. I noticed that others are receiving their NOA's faster than I am, and someone pointed out that it might be taking a long time because of the removal proceedings.

It have barely even begun this process, and I already get deeply depressed everytime I check the mailbox. I admire you for staying so strong, and I am praying for your son and the rest of your beautiful family.

Noelle, I never received any NOA1 at all. I called to ask for one and because I was caught in the mess of massive applications due to fee increase, it took the USCIS 90 days to finally gave me the receipt # though I already had an assigned one way before that. They should be able to clear some backlogs now so you need to call for your receipt # if it's been more than 30 days. The fact that your husband was placed in removal proceedings has no bearing at all on the receipting delays and inconsistencies. There are members in this forum who had their NOA1s received very late, too. I blame the USCIS' bureaucratic mismanagement and poor coordination for this.

Really, it is hard to stomach to think that our petitions are delayed and treated as second class applications because our spouses are placed in removal proceedings. The traumas we went through of having our spouses taken away very untimely are more than enough to be able to suffer an aftermath this way. I have no words to describe my pain. But then, I really can't come up with a definite conclusion on what happened to my application. The USCIS operation is happening behind closed doors and I can't access it. I already forwarded an inquiry and I should know the answer in a month or so. But my family is already been so bruised and scarred of waiting. We are facing uncertainties and I hurt so much for my children.

I empathize with you very deeply and I hope and pray that your application will be processed in an orderly manner.

I agree with everything you say, 100%. To have to deal with the tragedy of having our spouse ripped away from us, and our poor children being without their papi is enough of a punishment.

I hope that the upcoming election brings us hope for reform. USCIS needs an overhaul, for sure!

What number should I call to ask about my receipt? What kind of information will they need to be able to look it up?

Usually they ask for Beneficiary's name and DOB, Petitioner's name and DOB, date of filing and the Service Center you filed it at. Indicate that you are 30 days past.

Hope this helps.
