you guys might remember that i was excited about interviewing for a paralegal position for a local attorney. It's going to take me quite a while to type out the whole experience, but let me give you a prelude and I'll add on later. She came to the interview like a big Russian Rosie O Donnell wearing lycra hotpants and a worn out t shirt. Lets just say this is one job I hope I don't get an offer on because I could lose it and laugh in her face.

I'm sorry the experience was not a good one, but the way I choose to look at those situations is that it was just not meant to be and there is something much better out there for you. Good luck

Laurel, I bet you wouldn't go to an interview or see a client like that, though. Besides, that woman has no business even wearing lycra at night when she sleeps.
She seemed far more interested in my personal experience with immigration that with my education or work history. After laughing in my face about me filing the I-130 and "telling immigration that my husband was here". She also did the following:
Told me (with a husky russian accent) that if SHE was my attorney, she would have advised me to send my husband out of the country, married him in Brazil, then petitioned for him, attempting to keep it unknown that he was ever here. Even after I told her that we have bank accounts, own a home, have a child, and file taxes here in the US, she was sticking by that strategy. Talked to me like I was a complete idiot and wondered why, if my husband is Brazilian, I would evr think Lima, Peru has anything to do with his case.
Called her other Russian "paralegal" in the room and from that point, only spoke Russian to him. She also mentioned that she does some family, criminal, and real estate law. I asked if that was normally in conjunction with her immigration cases..her paralegal laughed and said, "If they have the money, we'll do it". Great. Just the type i want to work for. She also joked about being on very bad terms with our local immigration and ICE agents and two local judges. Impressive. She printed some generic grammar, spelling, and math tests from the internet and left me in the room for almost an hour to do them. I was really insulted that she put so little effort into the interview. I knew it wouldn't work between us right from the beginning and didn't mind stepping on her toes by telling her that she was wrong about a couple of immigrations things. I almost expected her to ask me to leave, but ironically, I get the feeling she may end up calling me back.

You just can't make this stuff up, can you? I am guessing that there are several others out there just like this...only in different outfits...I don't think that they all wear lycra......:D

OH!! She was also kind enough to explain the bar that my husband has incurred. The 13 year year bar, You know, the 3 and then the 10...I forgot to tell you guys the part about us being denied for the waiver because he has that darn 13 year bar.

arod sorry you had such a bad experience. Hopefully after your relaxing by the pool days you'll be able to find somewhere to work where you can actually use your brain and not have to defend yourself. She seems like a real winner :sarcasm:

What??? I don't know if it would be appropriate to laugh or to cry! It must have taken a lot to hold back your thoughts when she was giving you 'advice' about your husband's case. I don't know how I would have reacted. I might have just walked out...She definitely failed the interview, not you!

The saddest thing is to think of all the clients who put their faith in her as their attorney. She could end up ruining their futures by giving them advice like she gave you!

Oh I totally agree. I probably would have told her which parts of the law she was wrong about -- out of respect for her future clients (I would say) -- and no doubt I would end up telling her that she cannot get away with the lycra pants anymore!!

I did respectfully correct her and she would quickly change the subject. Like I say, at some point I didn't care about offending her. After all, she had offended me.

just give kitkat her number!!! kitkat will set her straight! lol
what a mess! I wonder how many lives she has ruined because of her misinformation.
This is the exact reason why you should research things on your own before hiring someone to do it for you.
Can we add her to the list of attorneys that suck?

Yeah, the lycra pants should be considered a felony offense, punishable by 3 years hard time. Crimes against humanity...that sort of thing.

You guys are too funny... I've been in such a foul mood lately- my sister has cancer, they removed her one tumor and found more (thank God her lymph nodes are clear).
I can always count on this site to bring a few good laughs to counter some of the tears...
So consider your bad event some comic relief for the rest of us... taking one for the team if you will.
You will find something much better than that job, with your ability to relate that story- you should go into writing!!!!
