I originally applied for the K3 visa in late July. My I-130 was approved on March 4th but USCIS says my I-129f is still pending. Does this mean I absolutely have to do a CR1 visa?

Your I-129f probably will be canceled. This happened to me. It still shows pending on the USCIS web site, but its been almost 4 months since my i-130 was approved and still nothing.

If you absolutely want to go k-3 route you can contact your senator or representative to see if they can help.

Or you can wait to see if the i-129f will be approved. Your i-130 will be forwarded to NVC and they will start sending you forms. You can just hold on to them and hope your I-129f will catch up.

I strongly do not advise this. I would go ahead with the i-130. Right now the I-130 process after USCIS approval may only be 3/4 months longer (and you may be waiting this long for your i-129f approval). Then you do not have to adjust in the US and save 1010 AOS fee.

Weird we have almost the exact same timelines. My I-130 was sent July 16 and I-129F was Sept 2. Maybe CSC has decided to stop K3's now.
