How long before your mother can become a citizen? That's going to be the only real way possible, adoption at the age you are now won't work with immigration. USCIS says the adoption has to take place before age 16, and before 18 if their is a younger sibling adopted at the same time.

mom GC is on this way, so i'm not sure how long before mine. My Mom married my stepfather who as already filed for me back in 2001. The marriage took place beafore my 16th B-day. My interview was back on 5/25/07, the IO told me that my mom papers had to be approved first, so i was llooking for another way around. So i was thinking if my stepfather adopt me then what esle can they say...i've been living with them on and off for the past 18 years.

What age were you when your stepfather and mother were married? As long as it was before your 18th birthday (a stepparent/stepchild relationship is good for immigration purposes, you don't have to be adopted) you would be fine. So was it more than 12 years ago?

They got married when i was 16 years old, my stepfather did file for me. The IO had told me that i had to wait for my mother's case to be approved first. I really don't want that to happen, I thought that since the stepfather/stepson had devolpe before my 17th b-day my application should be independent of my mother's.
