OK, I have a soon to be father in law who came here in 98 with a work visa (good for 4 months) and has been here ever since. He has a good ss# ( I dont understand how) but has worked ever since with a tax ID #. I dont really understand why our government gave him a SS card, maybe things were different at that time and it was just for work purposes?
I Have 2 Questions:
1. What does one do if they over stay a visa (by like 10 years!) and
2. Next year he'll be 65, can he file for ss benifits?
If anyone else can answer these for me, I would really appriciate it. Thanks!!
