ROME (Reuters) - A Sicilian mother took away her 61-year-old son's house keys, cut off his allowance and hauled him to the police station because he stayed out late.
Tired of her son's misbehavior, the retiree in the central Sicilian city of Caltagirone turned to the police to "convince this blockhead" to behave properly, La Sicilia, one of Sicily's leading newspapers, reported on Thursday.
The son responded by saying his mother did not give him a big enough weekly allowance and did not know how to cook.
"My son does not respect me, he doesn't tell me where he's going in the evenings and returns home late," the woman was quoted as saying. "He is never happy with the food I make and always complains. This can't go on."
Police helped the squabbling duo make up and the two returned home together, with the son's house keys and daily allowance restored.
Most Italian men still live at home late into their 30s, enjoying their "mamma's" cooking, washing and ironing.

Sure you can we promise not to tell. You have to admit that 61 is pushing it just a bit. 30's 40's maybe, but 61? Please I turned 18 and was out!

i think the funniest thing about that is the fact that both the mom and the son seem so unhappy about living together yet they continue to do it!! It's so funny the way that people just repeatedly put up with stuff like that.
I don't see anything inherently "wrong" or weird about living with your parents your whole life if that's what works for you. I was really surprised when I first went to Mexico about just how many families have one of more kids that just never, ever get married and start their own families, and in Mexico, it's not so easy to just move out and buy your own place. In a way it's kind've good because aging parents often have at least one son or daughter around to take care of them.

my hubby has two sisters and a brother that live at home. His older brother and oldest sister moved out. Now I don't know about you, but I couldn't live with my parents for the rest of my life. Seriously. We'd end up killing each other. I don't know how my in laws do it. It's close quarters at that. I'd go nuts!

Oh gosh, I could never do it either. When I moved to go to college, I moved for good and never went back to live with my parents. I've been staying with my mom for the past week and I was going nuts by like the 3rd day!!

Well when hubby took off to Mexico I moved in with my parents, let's just say it wasn't pleasant. I became the parent and them the children and now that they moved out and left us with their house I'm still the parent and they're still the children and we're still paying over half of their bills. It's a shame isn't it? We'll be homeless shortly because we're getting ready for battle, I mean, we're getting ready to talk with them about us paying their bills and ours. Not right at all. We didn't want their house they just gave it to us because they said we needed a place to live. Well we did need a place to live but we didn't need the manipulation that came along with staying here. Long story. grrrr
On a lighter note, I'm just glad I didn't marry a momma's boy. My ex was a momma's boy and well he and I just didn't work out. (jerk)

Shew this is hilarious!!!
I moved in with my parents after my hubby left also! We are trying to get out as quickly as possible! It is hard living there! My mom, dad, my grandmother, myself, my hubby and our son! ALL UNDER ONE ROOF! Not to mention my sister 2 daughters are there most weekends and evenings! My husband can not take it anymore! I have told him that while living there without him I felt so out of place, like I was on this wierd vacation and now he has just come to join me on it! I do not feel like it's "home". I feel like we are guests! I can't wait to get out of there. I just don't understand how someone in their 60's can still live at home!
Last night after dinner we went out to take a walk and my hubby said "OH I FEEL SO MUCH RELIEF WHEN WE LEAVE FROM YOUR PARENT'S HOUSE!!!" LOL He is going absolutely crazy!!!

My husband is living w/ his mom in Albania and HATING it. He moved out when he was 19 because she was always in his business.
There is nothing worse than a momma's boy.
My ex-husband is a total momma's boy (guess where he's living)!!!!
I'm holding on to my independence for dear life... but if we don't get approved soon (gulp) I may have to look into it for the short term (ick)!
